That's because all the programmers must stick to the standard otherwise their extension will not end up in the database or can't be checked. And even then, there are a hell of a lot other databases with extensions for FF which do not have those strict rules and thus can not be checked at all and/or aren't even reconized by the (also many) update checkers. It's almost just the same and has just the same kind of problems.
