So as I keep hunting for an ultra portable laptop, I'm wondering on either getting a convertible tablet..

Now although it seems "cool" to me, I can't really think of much advantages of having a convertible tablet.. Since typing is kind of faster than writing anyway.. Also saving the decryption from write to type conversion..

So I was wondering if you had any advantages of a tablet that would benefit me.

I think it really depends on what you're buying this laptop/tablet for. What are you going to be using it for, where are you going to be using it?

I think if your someone who is always taking notes with paper then a tablet may be a good investment for you. Other then that... I just get a normal laptop. And if you don't feel like typing, there is always voise recognition.

I am going to carry it around, in my bag, most likely everyday.
Used for school programing, some photoshop, music, videos..

For personal use as a student I would probably recommend a standard laptop as it is cheaper and you will more or less always have access to some desk or space where you can set up your laptop. A tablet may be more appropriate for photoshopping and such but I don't really think that it's worth it especially since most of your use (as you said) will probably be dedicated to writing documents, programming, and surfing the internet - all of which I personally find a lot easier to do on a keyboard anyway.
In terms of functionality it doesn't really make a difference what you use for music or videos although from a price viewpoint you are better off spending the money on a better laptop with a larger harddrive to fit more videos (tv shows etc.) than one with touch.
