i have windows live messenger 8.1 and windows xp when i try and log in it freeze's, i cant log on at all. however other people are able to log on with their Id on the same computer with no problems. what could be causing this problem?

Try deleting the following folder and then try signing in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\<email address>\Contacts

Make sure you have hidden files set to appear, Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> "Show hidden files and folders"

The only thing I can figure is that your ID may have been deleted from microsoft.  I used to have a @hotmail.com account for many years and one day it was gone from the passport network, so I just created another ID and now I'm fine.  Have you tried logging in with your current ID onto another computer?
