The name of one of my contacts is:


At first this was displayed fine, however next time I looked at my contact list the special characters just showed up as squares:


It appears that while Plus! is installed, the special characters turn into the squares whenever someone signs in/out. Closing the contact list and opening it again makes the characters display properly again.

Does this just happen with my computer, or is it a bug in Plus? I'm assuming it's a bug in Plus! as removing it makes the problem disappear, but it would be good to know that it's not just me it affects...

Tested with fatfreechicken and nothing.

Confirmed....I have that problem as well...I haven't tried without plus! but hopefully get around to it within about a week. I'm sure by then It will already be resolved

Edit: It appears that if an "e" is in the name it seems ro show up as a box...not sure about other letters.

Edit2: The "e" appears to be like έ

i suggest installing eastern languages support because that's japanese. this way you can have it properly displayed in many other apps too.

Yes, but I see the text fine with Plus installed....

It's just when someone signs in/out that it reverts to squares. And if it is this problem with Plus, why does closing and re-opening the contact list fix it?

Spot on, we came across this before and installing eastern languages does solve it.

That's what I was going to say... you need to change your language options to enable proper global support for eastern languages.

Still hasn't resolved my one though. Perhaps because it is ASCII could it be a contributing factor?
