sorry if this has been asked..
occasionally, random contacts on my list have a hyphen next to their name ( - )  as their personal message (the greyed text) with no message that follows the hyphen.  On my list, a contact would look like this:

gallows44 -

If you scroll over their name on your list to highlight, you'd see for example

gallows44 - -    (so the first hyphen is just the usual one that separates contact name from the personal message they have, so the 2nd hyphen is the message, right?)

Don't think it's a "what I'm listening to" glitch since some of these contacts never display their music.  The hyphen just appears every so often next to certain people on my list.  If I sign out and sign in again, their hyphen still remains ( until they refresh.. log out then log in again.)
anyone else experience or notices this?  is my live messenger just fucked?

Yep, I experience that sometimes too, so I don't think it's just your MSN. I have no clue why it happens, though.

I'm facing that too ever since WLM 8.1
Most probably it's a bug that the team has yet to fix =S

It's just a messenger bug, happens all the time with me on various contacts some more than others, usually I get it with Sunshine's messenger addy

its a bug that happens to me when plugin is selected in windows media player and the program is open but "show what im listening to" is not checked in live messenger

I noticed it happening with myself as well (that is, others saw the hyphen after my name) and I believe I fixed it by first enabling "Show what I'm listening to" and disabling it again right after that.
