On one of my laptops, when someone sends me ther webcam it loads for a second then the hole laptop freezes and i am un able to get it back. so i have to switch off by the mains and restart the laptop.

Any reson for this ??   how can i shut don the laptop without unpluging it ??

I don't know the problem's reason however to not unplug the computer, press its power button for at least 5 seconds. If it still refuses to shut down, then I am afraid you have no choice but unplugging it.
