Hello, I wonder if anyone can answer this for me ....

Does any option in this specifically allow the following :-

During an IM chat, in the message window I don't want to see the contact's 'personal message' each time they 'say' something to me.
Can this specifically be removed at my end? If so, which option does this?

No.

A skin could remove the personal Message section in chat windows though.

What do you mean 'personal message' and 'say'?

the personal message is displayed at the top of the window (by default) and doesn't change whenever someone says anything to you

What I mean is, (in an unpatched WLM) each time the contact types a new line, their line is prefixed by the 'says' line and their personal message if they have one.
(I'm not saying their personal message changes each time, because it doesn't )

I basically find this really annoying and distracting, so would like to blank / remove the personal message from each new 'says' line.
I've searched and found another topic asking the same thing pretty much, but with no clear resolution announced by that poster.

So do you think a skin would do this? If so, do you happen to know of one that does?

The personal message is not shown in a chat window like that.

The only thing which is shown before the "says:" is the contact's screen name, not their personal message.

The personal message is the line you enter beneath your screen name in the main Messenger window...

If you see the personal message in the chat window before the "says:" then you do have some patch, addon or script running. By default it is not shown:

Yes, I am.
I may have failed to explain exactly what I see 100% accurately or clearly, but yes.

I've now heard from another user that Apatch specifically removes these lines that I'm talking about, when using 1 or 2 of its specific options, so it sounds like that may well be my best option.

The only way that I can think of that you are seeing a contacts personal message when they send you a message is if that contact has included some or their entire personal message where they type in their nickname, I guess they can fit more in that way… 

If that is the case you can edit your contacts name by clicking on them in the contact list and selecting the edit nickname which will change it in your contact list…

I’m pretty sure it will also change it to whatever you have typed in as their nickname when they send you a message…

Correct DejaVoo, The same applies to First and Last Name.

Oh, I see then. Presumably I'm seeing what I see due to them typing it in their nickname. I hadn't thought of that and will try changing my names for them.

I would have shown a screen grab to help explain, but I don't have a handy IM chat window around at the moment.
