I fancy buying a tablet but don't want an ipad!  Looking on Amazon I've seen some for around £100  which is about what I'd like to pay, as I'm not going to use it for any purpose other than watching films!  My problem is I just don't know where to start specification wise. Any sugguestions

If you're really just planning to watch films (non-HD?), the cheapest chinese Android tablet will do you fine + RockPlayer or another VLC-like equivalent for the tablet.

Don't expect them to be fairly good, but they will be fine as an SD media player (sound quality I'm not sure, maybe will need to use headphone jack out to plug into headphones or speakers).

Ah ok  you basically nailed what it'll be used for on the head.  I'm just looking at them now and I've found a 10" one that looks ok
