I have Live Plus and Windows Live Messenger.  Is it right, that live plus save the history only 3 months?

No, Messenger Plus! Live will save chat logs for as long as you have it operational.

I have chat logs dating back to April 2003 (When I first installed Plus!)

However, I do think there is some sort of restriction or bug on how big a single log file can be.

There is no (should not be) a bug regarding this.

You are probably referring to the size limit of the Windows Live Messenger logs. When they reach a certain length Windows Live Messenger will ask to split the file.

However, this is unrelated to the logging system of Messenger Plus! Live, which has no limit in file size. Nevertheless, it is recommended to keep your logs 'short'. The longer they get the more time it will take to process them.

This said, neither Windows Live Messenger, nor Messenger Plus! Live have any kind of history limit, as the OP questioned about. You can have logs dating back to the stoneage so to speak.
