I'm sure this is very simple but i can't stop it happening. Whenever I type the letters "hi" together in WLM they get replaced with a daft picture and my message stops making sense. Can anyone tell me how to switch this function off?

Sounds like you've added some custom emoticons.

In a conversation window, click the emoticons button, then 'Show all'.

Scroll down to custom emoticons and delete or modify the ones you want.

Also: In Tools > Messages you can untick 'Show emoticons' or 'Show custom emoticons' so you won't see any at all, but your contacts still will.
