After launching its news sports site, Plus! Sports, last month, Messenger Plus! Live recently featured a World Cup App which was also available at the
Application Marketplace. Promoted through the Conduit Network on the toolbars available for free while downloading Messenger Plus! Live software, the World Cup App reached nearly 10 million users in 36 hours. The number of downloads from the toolbar and Plus! Sports site increased fast towards the opening day on June 11 in South Africa and surpassed the 12 million mark by the end of the Group Stage on June 26.
The World Cup App allowed soccer enthusiasts to stay close to all the 2010 World Cup action in real time. Fans saw who was playing, where and when; got information about statistics, matches and squads for specific stadiums; and even tried their luck playing “Who will make the finals?” – an interactive game which was embedded in the application.
Now that the Group Stage of the World Cup is over, fans can continue their World Cup activity throughout the finals with the World Cup script, developed by a community member of Messenger Plus! Live that notifies fans of the goals of their favourite teams. This successful script has yielded more than 8,000 downloads in a week and is available in the Messenger Plus! Live script database, promoted through Plus! Sports as well.
PlusNetwork, (including Plus! Sports and Plus! Games) and the Messenger Plus! Live toolbars support Messenger Plus! Live by letting us devote more resources towards the development of new features, as well as helping keep Messenger Plus! Live stay free.
