I don't know if this is what you were referring to...
no but if someoen sets themselves as away it appears as away in the event log window, whereas idle appears as separate, and IF you can configure idle by messenger > tools > options then why does MD have an option to stop yourself appearing idle?

Yes, that is exactly that... note that it will only kick in when your status is set to "online"...

do you know if your own status changes to idle, ie does it say at the top of your window.
Nope.... Not unless you reshack MSN Messenger. (see Matty.'s reply to Is it possible or anyway of telling the real status of the contact??) Also, by reshacking you can see the "Idle" status of other people too....

Also note that Messenger Plus! does report it in the Event Log Window if you or one of your contacts become "Idle"...

Also is idle if you are idle on your pc, ie not touching the keys or mouse, or is it just not using msn.
It is not using your PC...

how long does it take you to become idle.
The amount of time you've set in Tools > Options > Personal > Show me as away when I'm inactive for x minutes

also i noticed MD has an option to stop you appearing idle
Since MD uses a proxy (it sits between MSN Messenger and the internet), it can catch these things and overwrite the "idle" status, nothing more. There is nothing special about it...

Who knows.... because someone requested it because s/he didn't want people to know that s/he was actually idling?

Erm, just sit at your pc and don't touch anything and stare at the main Messenger window for x minutes like a zombie (after you reshacked msn messenger).....

No idea... What does it exactly do? Does it just put you in away status (Plus would show "away" and not "idle") or does it make it work as if the option in messenger > tools > options was disabled? IMHO, it's a useless feature :)
