we were not talking about the inbuild features of some virusscanners to scan incoming files in IM software (which can conflict with other things), but about the option in Messenger itself to scan a file. This option is forgotten/overlooked by many people, but it is infact a very good/better way to scan incomming files (for several reasons)...

In Messenger: Tools > Options > Messages > File Transfer > Scan files for viruses using:....

RE: Auto Accept Missing Rename Requester
I have tried to manually enter my Virusscan in MSN Messenger several times. It just won't bite. I am stuck to the default setting there "c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsftsn.exe" and it just don't do anything at all.

Messenger 6.2.0137 & Plus! 3.20.100 here too...

Mine is "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates\On Demand Scanner\Scan32\scan32.exe"
Try finding your scan32.exe and pointing to that.

I have already done that. Next time I open that dialogue, the MSN Messenger default setting is back again.
I am logged on as Administrator and there are no restrictions on permissions what I can see.

But thanks for the tip.

Maybe it is McAfee itself that is putting/locking the setting there. Disable the "scan files in IM sofwtare" option (or whatever it is called) in McAfee and try again to manually put the line there...
(don't forget to close messenger when you're going to disable the function in McAfee, you never know)

Humm perhaps we should take this somewhere else.

But anyway, The option is ON in McAfee and I use the same string in WinRar, PowerArchiver, and Flashget and it is working there. Guess I have to be a detective again and try to find the culprit.
