A few minutes ago I had the idea to create a plugin which changes your display picture when a (new)artist is played in winamp..so that you can combine a picture with an artist. and also when your playin nothing or an unknown artist a default display picture will be used...You will need to setup a picture for every artist of course....


what do you guys think...should I put time in this???

Why can't u use it in windows media player 10 cause there u can get artist's album's pic from net immediately and is stored on hd. All u need to do to download it is point and click ???

I think the idea is awesome !!! The total go ahead from me

its sorta of already been done (2 times)
the 2 i know of are Song2Nick and PsychoMark's DP plugin.

they basically write the Name and Artist of the song your playing onto a picture and set it as your Display Picture.

also why not just set a picture for the first character of the artist

like

Carlos Santana - Love, Devotion & Surrender [sets pic1.bmp as dp]
Van Halen - Why Can't This be Love [sets pic2.bmp as dp]
Cream - White Room [sets pic1.bmp as dp]

see what i mean?

anyway i suggest dont put to much time onto it unless you know you can better these plugins and ive seen some screenshots and there pretty good.

what language were you gonna code this in?

Well don't know if this is done before but I don't really like the idea of the first character because my purpose is that you really use a pic the artist or...maybe direct download album art or something...I will see what I can do....I'm writing my plugins in VB

please add support to nick change and text dp (song name and artist written on a background dp like song2nick)...

second please make it works with messenger 7

I like the idea to replace dp with real album/artist cover, imho the best way to do that is using the same way windows media player download covers when you play mp3s

also add support for map.dat copying and resaving so the Display Picutre window doesent get overflowed with DP's of cd covers. but you'll have to save the cd covers somewhere so your program doesent have to download them again everytime the song is changed
