RE: Emoticon Protection
That entirly depends on how you have 'installed' the emoticon in your own Messenger. There are tools which can make content packages out of your emoticons. If you import such a content package the emoticons are 'protected' because then Messenger thinks you got them from a commercial site or something.
However, there are always other (easy) ways for contacts to copy emoticons though. The 'protection' (if you can call it that) only disables the right click context menu 'copy' when you right click a contact.
