O.P. Contact list wont appear/Unable to start conversations

I'm posting for a friend of mine who just installed msn 7.0.0777, whenever they log on the names in the contact list do not appear and conversations cannot be started. I'm not sure if it has anythinf to do with Plus! but i doubt it

Has he tried to use some of the older versions of msn 7... It might not be a problem with msn messenger 7, there is a possibility of a server problem... How long has he been experiencing these problems?

Older versions of msn would always crash, the problem has been ongoing for a few attempts of restarting msn but it has only been 30mins since download
