If that is your only partition, you will lose ALL data if you press d.

You could take the Hard drive out and connect it to another computer and take of the data you want from there.
Then reconnect it and reformat it with partitions for future......

O.P. RE: Computers Died Need Help :(
Unfortunately i cannot install the HDD to another computer as my dad has some ultimate fear of me touching his computer (Even though i clean it of viruses and spyware and fix any hardware problems for him) so unless i buy a brand new machine and do as i planned to use this current Drive as a Slave/2nd Drive.
I'll probably do this as the current system just needs a shovel to dig its own grave really, must remember to steal RAM, DVD-RW and SoundCard first though.....

Do as Segosa suggested: Burn a LiveCD (Like Knoppix), boot it, copy your files via a network or CDs, use QTParted to erase your HDD, install your OS again.
Make sure you copied everything, and copied it correctly though before erasing your HDD.

I've tried CHKDSk and system recovery from recovery console neither worked.
On my way to buying a nice shiny AMD64 Unit later tonight
I suppose i could try this linux out first then, but who cares when new computer looms overhead

Hum I recommened you save files to another disk (re-writable) every week or so, so this won't be as bad I do
Could it be possible to make that registry key bootable to fix it or am i talking a load of crap

Bleh, boot to recovery console and then do a chkdsk /f (or whatever the repair param is). I had this problem and it worked for me.

RE: Computers Died Need Help :(
I have my PC Partitioned, one 40 Gigabyte Hard Disk for me and another 30 Gigabyte Hard Disk for the rest of my family. When I installed XP Professional onto my new Hard Disk on Sunday, it asked me whether I wanted to repair my XP Professional Installation on my Family Hard Disk.
Insert the XP Disk, go through the options and see if it comes up, if it doesn't cancel the installation unless you want to reinstall XP.

I consider this thread to be closed and dead.
