Im most likely going to get an ipod within the next few months. I was just wondering how music is stored. Is it like the following

Artist folder>album folder>mp3s

is the track order determined by the file name or tag info?

Absorbation you are actually wrong. Files on the iPod are stored in iPod_Control\Music\Fxx (where xx is a number between 00 and 49). All the music is stored in its original format either AAC, MP3 etc. The files are not organized in any particular order. But through the Menu options you can view all your songs, or by artist, by album, genre etc.

Another question. So lets say if I have a collection of albums for a certain group can I organize it in such a way that it would appear like the following.

Nirvana (1990) Bleach
Nirvana (1991) Nevermind
Nirvana (1992) Incesticide
Nirvana (1993) In Utero
Oasis (2005) Don't Believe the Truth
Rage Against the Machine (1992) Rage Against the Machine

and so on...

you could possibly do that with playlists, but the ipod will already sort for you. to get to nirvana's nevermind it would be

"main menu"
Playlists
music >      artist >  oasis
shuffle      album     nirvana >   bleech
settings     song      ratm        nevermind >    track 1
                                   incesticide    track 2
                                   in utero       track 3
                                                  track 4
