No, you don't need to download a keylogger. There are various exploits that allow people to trojan you remotely if they have your IP; from there on they can download to your box and execute whatever they want.

keyloggers are a pain in the ass, try downloading antikeylogger (Works for windows XP only) - works well with unknown kyloogers (looks for strains) and it works well with hidden - unoticeable keyloggers ("Perfect Keyloger" is a good example)

any decent antivirus should ditect it though but it wont be as good as something ment to ditect keyloogers
