Is there any minimum upgrade requirements necessary for ADSL Broadband?

Specifically in:

Hardware
Software

areas.

Thanks

RE: ADSL Requirements?
Ethernet Card - if connecting it Via Ethernet which IMO is the better way to use DSL/ADSL or Cable,

USB, ,
usually the Modem you Buy will have the minimum specs on it

you can usually use any speed connection with any computer. slower computers may not take full advantage of the available speed though.

If you are going to get broadband, your isp will tell you what you will need. The hardware will be a modem which will come with software and you will also need an ADSL Filter unless you get someone in to split your phone line which is more expensive.

Also remember that if you are going to have more than 1 computer hooked up to the connection, it might be best to invest in a router.
If only people could respect someone who once had respect for them up until recently when all trust and respect was lost.

Depression. A psychiatric disorder characterized by an inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of appetite, anhedonia, feelings of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness, and thoughts of death. One in six men will experience depression at some time.

Or get an all in one box with router/modem/gateway/net all inbuilt. This way you don't need a computer on all the time as well.

Make sure that you have (long enough) cabling. My integrated gateway came with a short ethernet cable, and it certainly works, but now it restricts where I can place it.

Like Animal said, definately get an ethernet modem, not some dodgy USB box.

Another requirement, which doesnt relate exactly to software and hardware can be your telecommunications company or whoever is providing your home (work?) phone line as you may have to be within a specific range. Even if your internet is through another company there can be areas where ADSL is not connectable due to the phone company. It is a good idea to check with your telecommunications company for this before you decide on an upgrade.

Your potential ISP will request the owner of the ADSL infrastructure (this could be them or another company) for line provisioning. First they will check which phone exchange you are connected to, and whether that exchange has a DSLAM installed, and if the DSLAM has available ports.

These checks are all theoretical. If your line has passed these shecks, you many still be unable to get ADSL, but your ISP will try to find a solution to the obstruction, or inform you that you are unable to be connected, and not charge you anything.
