I wanted to put my own sounds when people sign on and off, but it only works when they sign off. I put the file in both text fields but still dont work. Can anybody help me with this problem please?

Also, is there a way to change the sound of receiving a message?

You need to enable Plus's signin notifications.
And Messenger's sounds can be changed in Control Panel > Sounds.
