First of all, I am not good at computing,
but I wanna know what exactly this thing done with the WLM?

and what actually happened with the WLM server?

Restart WLM and it should work.

Just make sure you remove the two lines from the host file in a day or so when the problem is fixed.

We don't know? Sometimes there's mess-ups that can't be helped. They happen from time-to-time. There's millions of people logging onto the servers all the time, there's bound to be some problems.

I don't know much about it, that's just what I learnt/guessed

From first appearences, it looks like the DNS entries around the world for the WLM servers got screwed with. Basically, this means that PCs couldn't get the IP address given the URL, and therefore couldn't find the server.

DNS issues usually resolve themselves after about 24 hours, when they've all refreshed there data.
