what dose it look like in your contact list?

it happens to me too, but only with contacts that have emoticons before their name.

She may have stuffplug 3 installed, that lets you have chat only names (names which in chat are different that the ones in the contact list/top of the window)

I don't think that's a Chat-only name, as I am sure that those contacts of mine with which I have this problem don't have SP/MDL ecc..
however, it could still be a problem linked to SP... I've just posted on SP forum to check if someone else has this issue...

StuffPlug 3 does have a bug with the nickname quick-edit feature, which "eats" two (or three?) letters of your nickname if you have emoticons in it, and that everytime you modify it (via the WLM main window, of course).

It's an issue your contact should be aware of, and not an issue affecting your computer at all.

I can't think of anything else causing something similar.

Its not a chat nickname as it happens with many contacts. In the contact list it says Catherine and not rine
