O.P. Explorer and Windows Media Player Crashes
When I right click somewhere on my external HDD, Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) will crash and restart itself. Also, if I play a video off my external HDD then Windows Media Player (i'm using version 11) and Windows Explorer will crash. However, this problem does not happen all the time and its completely random. I know you may be thinking its something wrong with the external HDD but it seems to work on my laptop and on other systems. Whats going on?

Might be a corruption in your system folder, if it's, then reformat.

If it is the case, no need to reformat... Try the following command first:
code: sfc.exe /scannow

I ran that, it scanned the whole way, then nothing. So I presume that there isn't any errors.

Well, if it finds some, it replaces the file, and should also ask you to restart your computer.

I see. Well it didn't ask me to restart. I've noticed a small change in the problem. Windows Explorer doesn't seem to crash anymore. Windows Media Player will only crash when trying to play a video. Apart from the obvious (repair the installation), what else can be done?

Could it be a buggy codec?
Try uninstalling all of your codecs, and install the one that your video(s) need and try again...

I tried the removing codecs but the problem still happens. I've noticed now that it happens on the internal drives and not just the external one. It only happens with folders with videos files in them.
