O.P. Make easy to subscribe a thread
[Image: attachment.php?pid=814902]In this picture if user wants to subcscribe to a thread he can check the box and then click any link on the forum. Since he checked it, it will automatically subscribe him to that thread by going any other page on the forum without the need of refreshing the thread. But if user plans to close the browser just after the subscription, then let him still be able to click on Subscribe or Unsubscribe or the other favorite thread link. I think this would give users much easeness because when I want to subscribe a thread, it take sometime to refresh the page.

Adding checkboxes doesn't look the greatest, and if you want to exit the browser as soon as you subscribe, as you suggested, you can just wait until the page saying "This page has been added to your subscriptions blah blah" has appeared, and then exit.

I think it's too much coding for such little benefit

I don't see what's wrong with the way it is now, refresh doesn't take that long...besides, putting checkboxes inthere is ugly...

1) Checkboxes are ugly in this situation.

2) If people actually need to subscribe, usually they will post, and there, there is an email notification checkbox.

3) It doesn't take too long to refresh the page.

4) (un)checking the checkbox also requires for something to be send to the server, just as it currently is, there would be no difference at all speed-wise.

5) The user can already browse other pages as soon as the subscription update has been processed, he doesn't need to wait for the page to be refreshed.

6) Aiming at a small checkbox is way more difficult than clicking on a (relative) big link, especially when you don't have time (since you don't want to wait for a page refresh)...

...

The only 'problem' here is the page which refreshes (it doesn't need to be refreshed, that is just an added bonus) and that could easly be 'fixed' (although I personally don't see why; there is nothing to fix). And for that, nothing needs to be changed on the layout or the way people subscribe (the suggested change will even make it more difficult, imo, see point 6).

7) You don't want to have some easeness on the board and you are close to useful changes. And you are unable to notice the annoyence of such things before I propose it to the agenda.

Then lets post something saying "hello, I posted this in order to subscribe to this thread, sorry" and let WDZ remove that Subscribe button on the threads.

It is not something about speeds, it is something about page refreshing.

Also I don't want to watch white screen even for a couple of seconds when subscribing to a thread.

But something still needs to be sent to the server as CookieRevised has said. A checkbox will not make it very easy and in fact would make those less familiar with forums never come back to forums, because they want to be aware that they have subscribed, they want to be aware of what's going on and that things are happening. Don't just think about yourself, think about others who may not be as computer or as forum literate as you, such as the older generation of users (what I mean by that is users who are like 45 and have never used a forum before), that is the first ever lesson I was taught in Software Design and Development.

Yet another useless suggestion by aghtmtnahsnms.

Its fine the way it is. You click on a link and you're subscribed. Done. how could it be any harder?

Besides, I doubt WDZ will add anything else to the forum, Its fine the way it is and WDZ will upgrade MyBB... hopefully.
