righto heres the deal.

my m8 jus bought a new pc case. he transfered everything perfectly but the only problem now is that there is no output from the monitor. Every thing about the pc is the same except for the case. The monitor is attached to the graphics card (which is not a built on graphics card) perfectly and the monitor repsonds when its plugged in or not. The monitor worked fine before the new case earlier that day. the pc gives a longish beep (just one)
i have searched around the net and found similar problems. recommendations are to reset the CMOS and check the RAM. so my m8 has gone to do this. does anyone no how to fix this?

[Edit] the beep is as soon as the power button is pressd and the rest of the computer seems to load up properly i.e fans, lights are working and cd drives and hard drives r working

[Edit] My m8 has jus reset the CMOS and the RAM and still no diffference. He has also taken apart the computer and put it back together again and still no luck

If the PC is beeping long and load, there's something majorly wrong! I don't know where you saw all this 'Reset the CMOS' stuff, but my guess is he's stuffed up his graphics card or something.
If he's got the motherboard manual, it should have a section explaining what all the various beeps mean. He should look at that.

we both checked out the beeps, its just the one longish loud one at the beginning. the bios he has is Award BIOS and 1 beep indicates a video card error. but the video card wos working fine the minute before we started changing the case. so i dont understand how it can jus stop working after changing a case

You're almost answering your own question here.
It worked before you changed the case.
It doesn't work after you changed the case.
So something went wrong in between.

Like I said, he's probably stuffed up the video card.

so the best thing is try another vid card. if it works then buy a new one?

I wouldn't change it yet. Personally I'd just change the slot the card is in to another one a few times, see if that helps, be it either a new AGP slot or PCI slot, depending on the card .
Then see if you can get a new video card to test it out. However it will cost a lot to get a decent video card, and if that doesn't work it's a waste.
I'd suggest either borrowing one, but few people will lend one unless they have a spare, or taking it into a store that specialises in computer repair, and then asking them to try out a new video card temporally. Or even seeing if they can fix the problem, with the current card, without having a new card. I wouldn't go out and waste money on a video card that may not work.

his card is AGP and he only has one AGP slot. I could try my AGP card in his computer to see if it works. Knoiwing him, if it is his graphics card then he will buy a new one straight away

When you changed the case did you put all the wires in the write compartment.And when you put it in you might of damged it.

Sorry, but what do you mean by right compartment?
If you mean did he connect everything up correctly, he most likely did. But his BIOS is reporting a problem with his AGP graphics card, so I doubt it's a problem with wires.

Just set me off on an idea there. I heard about a similar problem where someone damaged his graphics card by the static electricity in his body, also he could have done the same to the motherboard. When he did the switching did he ground himself by any means to get static out of his body? Or at least hold onto a metal object for about 30 seconds before he started?

Has he made sure that the graphics card hasnt been knocked out of the slot slightly whilst changing cases.
Just take it out of the slot that put it back in, making sure its securly seated, and if the slot has a clip, that the clip is down securing the card into place.

If this doesnt help then it is most likly a stuffed graphics card.
