O.P. Lock properties of a file
Hi all

Looking for some advice with regards to locking the properties of a file so that they cannot be changed. I'm on XP Home and so can't do it the way Microsoft suggest and was wonder if anybody knew of a way or a program that would allow me to do such a thing.

Thanks in Advance

Slight problem with that link: requires Mac OS X. I'm on Windows XP Home.

Okay I had a quick look around, do you basically want to change/lock any file? or just one you created using say for example VB?

I want to be able to lock only certain files so that the properties cannot be changed.

ermm... what do you mean by "locking file properties"??? (as there is no such thing as "locking file properties"; anything saved on your HDD can always be changed, thus also files. Also the "properties" of a file are simply some bits and bytes stored within the file.)

Do you mean locking the "Read only" and "Encrypted" and "Compressed" (or similar) properties?

if so, this can't be "locked". And would also be pointless. Those properties must be able to be changed, otherwise you will loose some functionality later on...

if so, this is totally pointless as you can change the file "properties" with any program which is designed to do so (or even by messing up the file with any type of editor for that matter)...

--------------------

Anything from a file can always be changed; this is simply how computers work. There is no such thing as write-protecting anything. (though there are methods, but they are either hardware-solutions, are mostly for all files, not for individual files and/or are always reversable)

--------------------

Before speculating further (and making further useless posts) lets wait until Vazza clearly states in detail what she wants and includes some examples... :)
