in windows 98 there was a program called 'phone dialer' and its not in windows xp. but the one i did find doesnt work. is there a program on the net that will just let me use my modum as a phone and use like a usb headset or one that just plugs into the mic socet or w.e.

any help would be greatly appriciated

Try Skype.  They also have it so you can call other PCs and the likes of that and their rates are very good (Only calling telephones costs you not to a PC).

yes i have that. i have had it for a while. but i just wanna use my computer headset though my computer as a phone. like i can be on the comp and be ringin ppl usin the comp stuf. i find that easier

You do know that Skype is designed to let you use headsets and dial people?

RaceProUK, Skype isn't designed to let you use headsets and dial people from your phone line.

YA_MUM, you could try to use the program from Windows 98 on Windows XP. There may be a similar program with your modem drivers (either for your current modem, or any other drivers you may have access to for old/family's/friend's modems).

I think it actually is, but there's just no Start Menu shortcut for it.

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\dialer.exe

Start > Run > "dialer" should work as well.

The program works for me. I don't know if it actually dials or not (no phone line), but it should, since it exists, and it's got a new style icon.

I remember you had to use special software unless you plug your handset into the modem... I may be wrong though... Long time since the internet dark ages
