what domain is the email address of the bot?  if it's some random one that no other contacts of yours have, couldn't you block the whole domain? (assuming all the bots have the same domain)

well you can block all people from messaging you who are not on your contact list
Tools > Options > check "only people on my allow list can see my status and send me messages"

I cannot hear you. There is a banana in my ear.

now you mention it, i'm not sure.  maybe i'm thinking back to the pre windows live days of hotmail, when you could block whole domains...  :s  i'd have thought it would be doable though, with some script...

When someone adds you on his/her contact list (and he's/she's not on yours), will you get a notice that someone has added you and ask you whether you want to add him/her? Once you enable the only allow users on your contact list to see status and send you messages, the box to be informed about being added turns grey. Does that mean it's disabled?

no, it means it has to be on, cos if you uncheck the box, and then enable 'only people on my allow list can send me messages', then the box about being informed when others add you gets a tick in it.  I guess the WLM builders thought that you wouldn't want to have a setting where no-one new can talk to you, which is probably true in most cases...
