Right, so. The new Windows live messenger (the essentials one) was just recently forced upon me. The old messenger refused to log in and said I had to download the newer version, so I did and guess what, I fucking hate it lol. This however did not happen to some of my friends(it happened to most of them though) Some are still happily using the "old" messenger... anyway enough with angry ranting, I'm very curious if there are any ways to obtain the old messenger again? Because this new one for me doesn't even seem to be msn+ compatible.

Hence what I am asking, is there a way to downgrade the newest msn to the previous version/download the previous version?

This didn't happen to me, but it did to my sister. Are you perhaps using Windows 7? She's on 7, I'm on XP. Perhaps that's the reason...

I'm using w7 64-bit

Windows Live Messenger 2009 still runs perfectly fine in Windows 7 without any compatibility settings, the forced update is from a Messenger 2009 version to a newer Messenger 2009. See Mnjul's reply to Looks like Microsoft has now forced upgrade for WLM 2009

It is 14.0.8117.416, released May 2010, not that new. This is why you weren't forced to update.
