Hah, that's interesting.

It seems all icons are mirrored though. Usually Messenger 2009 look something like this:


I wonder if mirroring the icons is Messenger's default behavior for RTL languages, or if there is something odd which mirrors the icons. Any other people using Messenger in a RTL language who can confirm?

Yes Its Default behavior For Arabic Language Because Arabic is readed from right to left , Even Arabic Windows Is Mirrored like that The start button is in the right side and the clock in the left xD

I knew Arabic is read from right to left and that GUI elements are arranged in another way, but never knew icons were mirrored too .

What Menthix meant was that control elements are expected to be reversed with RTL languages, but not the images themselfs. That indeed does not make much sense at all.

It does sound like either a bug in WLM, or either a very cheap and crappy way of mimicing RTL behaviour in WLM ("bleh we're lazy, so lets just reverse the whole graphical area instead of changing the positions of controls").

Same here... I would have never expected that images themselfs are reversed.

I suppose it is easy to 'fix' for Plus! though (just reverse the images in the wrong way so WLM will reverse them back correctly). Although I wouldn't really call that a 'fix', lol.

We all know that when you have the Arabic language, or any other RTL language, that stuff is 'mirrored' from right to left. But what is not suppose to happen is images (or to be more precise foreground icons) to be mirrored too.

The About window of Windows 7 shows correct, and also the logo of Windows is showing correct. That is how it is supposed to be. But in Windows Live Messenger, graphics like that Windows logo are also reversed, and this is not correct. That is what Menthix (and me and others) are referring to

Update:

Apparently Yuna is aware of the reversal of images because in the resources of Plus! there are some 'special' RTL alternatives for some images (eg: plusicon-16.png <-> plusicon-16-rtl.png), it's the same image as the original one but reversed (thus they will be shown correctly when used in RTL environment).

There is even a special RTL alternative version of the button logo talked about in this thread. But it is the same as the normal logo, it is not reversed (plus-icon-big.png <-> plus-icon-big-rtl.png)!!

So, I think this is a booboo on Yuna's side....
