I just formatted my disk and put on a clean Windows 7 SP1.

I accidentally installed an older version of WLM 2011 first, but I removed it before installing the newest version.

I installed the newest version of WLM 2011 from here
and MP!L 5.01 from here

Only when I try to start WLM it says it loads my contact list etc, after that it crashes and says: "Windows Live Messenger has stopped working" etc.
I have searched this forum but came up empty, I re-downloaded both files with a clean cache, removed the programs, removed all directories, rebooted and then re-installed them.

Have tried it without and with a-patch / compatibility. I didn't use CCleaner when installing once and I did use it once both installs didn't work.

Last thing I tried was installing the newest WLM with ML!P 4.90. This works fine O.o. I updated that install to 5.01 but that crashes as well.

Does anyone have a solution?

I have installed the latest DirectX Redist (June 2010)
I have installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 and 2010 x86 and x64

Your problem seems to be somewhat unique, as there seem to be not many (if at all) other people experiencing this crash, it's working properly for me in the same setup as yours as well. Including Compatibility mode "Vista SP2" and A-Patch installed.

The only problem I can think of which should in fact have been fixed in 5.01 compared to 5.00 is the MyPlus! Online Chat logging mode. Do you have this enabled? Messenger Plus! 5.00 used to crash when this was feature was enabled.

It crashes at signing in so I can't even set anything up

I hate it when things don't work, so I'm trying to fix this problem myself.
I have installed WLM 14 (2009) at this moment and MP!L 5.01 is running fine with it.
The only problem is now I can't install or uninstall the Windows Live Essentials suite

I just formatted again!
This time I installed WLM 2011 and MP!L 5.01 on a clean fully updated Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 from MSDN. It worked till I had to reboot to install the latest updates...
After that I only got a black main screen and WLM crashed when I closed it.

I'm now running MP!L 4.90.392 which does everything I ask from it O

I'll probably try the new versions when they are released and report back here!
