I just downloaded the latest version of Messenger Plus and when I installed it I got this virus alert from my AV checker.  So what the hell is going on?  Is this a false alarm?

it is a sponsor program within the program, which is completely optional. there was a screen in the setup where u agree to install it, and u were instructed to reade the sponsor agreement.

maybe try a free scan from panda software ?

Bloody 'ell guys that was quick.  Thanks.  I certainly did not see any screen with the option described.  And yes I was guilty of not fully reading the agreement.  We live and learn....

Yeah this thread should be removed if the admin has the power to do it.  I know where I went wrong - I thought I was accepting the licence agreement you get with 99% of software, the type of agreement we've seen a million times before.  The one we just click "agree" on without reading!  Anyway, soz for the OP.

Same thing happened to my wife about the sponsor program.  Be careful Carl, posting about not catching it in the beginning, could release the sharks swimming around this message board.....the ones just waiting for someone to make a simple mistake, post a question about it....then attack you for no reason.


Patchou, seems like your SPONSOR program ACCEPT/DENY screen needs to be replaced.  If too many people are accidently installing the Spam because they think it's your EULA.....maybe you should redesign the interface a little bit.

Unfortunatly, we cant be responsible for people not reading. The way the sponsor agreement is done is perfect right now. The word "sponsor" is written 5 times in the window the way you see it when you install.



I can understand your concern. However, since removing the sponsor is really easy using Patchou's instructions in this thread http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=21598, I dont think the sponsor agreement window will be modified.
