Operating System : Windows 2000 pro
MSN plus ver : 3
MSN Messenger ver : 6.1 then 6.2

All of the ads (side ,start and bottom ads) used to go when i was using MSN messenger before i format the computer. Now after i format it , install MSN 6.1 then MSN plus 3 , the side and start ads  still there and wouldn't go away as they should !!!

i tried MSN 6.2 as well but the problem still exist. How can i remove those annoying ads???


PLEASE HELP ... im allergic to ads

note : the start ad is the big annoying window that has some news that pop up once you log into your account.

Side ads: Check this option:
(Main Messenger Window) Tools\Options\Privacy -> "This is a shared computer so don't display my tabs"

Bottom ads: Check this option:
(Main Messenger Window) Plus!\Preferences\Contact List -> "Hide the advertisement banner"

Start ads: Uncheck this option:
(Main Messenger Window) Tools\Options\General -> Display MSN Today when Messenger signs in

The start ad is removed by going to tools-->options-->general-->display msn today on startup
The bottom ad is removed by going to plus!-->preferences-->contact list-->hide advertisement banner
The side ads are removed by installing tabserve which changes the tabs it can be found at http://www.msnfanatic.com/

even if I tick the Hide Advertisement Banner checkbox, the ad banner is still displayed on my main window. what gives?

Patchou is aware of it, it is the way that Messenger redraws the advertisement. What happens is Messenger pays no attention to the size of the advertisement box and redraws it as it pleases. Now Plus! does not sit there and constantly check the size of the window and resize it, it uses the Windows API to hide the box only one time once the Main Contact window is open. In the next version that Patchou plans to release this bug will hopfully be fixed. But until then you may use an advertisement patch to remove it for good. Until then there is really no solution only workarounds that dont work.
