RE: XP Pro or XP Media Centre
do you need a PVR??? thats the real question.
media centres are a whole computer, so u might as well just buy a TiVo and XP Pro, and have enuff left over for something nice.

RE: XP Pro or XP Media Centre
well if your even considering Pro then you dont need media centre.
its quite different with its start up menu and the such like but if you really do want a pc next to your TV then there really is no other choice because you get a PC with all the other boxes under your tele intergrated into one.
ive heard many good thing about media centre and the compatibility is supposed to be really good.
this is mostly down to the fact that microsoft check every media centre pc to see if it correct to use the media centre OS
its a great deal really if you need it.
but from the sound of it you dont need it because youre considering Pro which simply isnt any substitute

RE: XP Pro or XP Media Centre
yea, for media center, u just blow a bunch of money on a tuner card when u have sumthing called a "tv" and "vcr" and "vhs tapes", media center is useless unless u reli love ur computer enuf to live by it

RE: XP Pro or XP Media Centre
well then u might wanna consider media center if u have a tuner card, but for most ppl ,stick wit pro, media center is good if u wanna use ur comp as a home theatre though, i saw a system with a media center comp wit a 7.1 surround sound system hooked up to a 52 inch big-screen i swear, i was in heaven
