Most English people don't know much about Falklands (they know there was a war, but not much), nor do they care as much as Argentinians do*. The football rivality is, IMO, for that very reason that Omar mentioned  (j/k  )
*I don't mean anything against the UK population, they are probably just more used to having colonies, or probably don't care (unlike their government some years ago) about having a couple of small islands near Argentina. And indeed, many people are informed about the subject and probably do care, but from what I've seen in statistics and documentaries it's not the great majority.
