i love the emoticons in the chat window, but one thing about them REALLY pisses me off.. the fact that backspace removes the emoticon, instead of the last character in the emoticon.. is there any possible way to change this functionality? i dont want to remove them like the other patch, i simply want to allow backspace to work properly

1) True, but there is also a simple patch which you can use if you have a non-skinned messenger.

He asks something which hasn't been done before, so there is nothing that exists to do that...

ya, sorry if i did not fully explain myself. when you type : - ) in msn without spaces, it makes a smiley face, but when you hit back space, it deletes it all, instead of going back to : -   this may not seem big, but it just is a daily hassel i really dont like

What the Patches do Gergith is Disable the auto-completion of the emoticons so that when you type : - ) (without spaces) nothing happens But sinse you do not want that..

Also: i don't know if this will help at all but if you do not want to patch or anything for whatever reason try this:

After you have completed your Emoticon, press Ctrl + Z and the emoticon will Un-Auto-Complete and the text for the emoticon will be highlighted. You can then further press --> and Backspace to delete the last Character

thank you for that good work around, but all i want this for is effeciency, do to my incredible lazyness (isnt that the start of most programs? to something easier and more efficient )

anyways, that is a cool work around, but it involves far too many keystrokes   ctrl+z (2) right arrow to deselect it all (3) then one to delete the last character or two (4-5)

where as 1 back space key would be perfect

as it is, you hit back space, and then retype it so thats 3-4 keys

but i would like one that kept the functionality, but when you hit back space, it doesnt remove the entire emoticon, it just would delete the lastcharacter of the emoticon (yes yes, very lazy)

yeh that really bugs me aswell... i'd love to have that! cos sometimes i'm typing and dont look up and i want to change to and i automatically press backspace and S so it comes out wierd... but i wanna keep the auto emo thing cos its good for custom emoticons to see that you have actually done it right

then why don't you use the "Disable Auto-Comple Emo"??.... it's so cool.... that way you can do it exactly as you want to, and if you have a plugin to send a text, eg. a nickchanger, then it wouldn't ruin your emos you have typed as it does....

Yeah but the thing is, some of us actually like having our icons auto-completed. I find its far less common that I send the wrong icon. Sending when you mean to send is not always a great idea.

I use the Ctrl+Z method as well, and although its not perfect, I prefer to do this than have auto-complete totally turned off
