Filenames usually exist of two parts, separated by a dot. The part before is the filename you see, and the part after the dot (the extension) shows what file type it is. Sometimes the extension is shown, other times it's hidden, that depends on your computer's settings.
The extension .wav indicates a wave audio file, while .txt would indicate a (Notepad) text file, and .xls an Excel spreadsheet
