I updated Crystal MSN, but my computer died and the hard drive was wiped by the technicians. As such, Crystal MSN's updated version for 6.2.0137 has been lost..when/if I get time..I'll work on an update :\, really sorry.

Then how come when i set my desktop item to the it moves?, why wont it do that in msn messenger?

anyways, it doesn't move in messenger because, like I said, messenger reads it as a static GIF, not a animated gif; it doesn't read the frames that come after the first frame; only the first frame is read; it can't handle animated GIF's (for the background).

Hmm, I tried this lvback.gif thingy on two computers and nothing, absolutely nothing happens here and I tried several Gif's in different sizes. Strange.

you sure you put it on the Msn Messenger folder?.. and you rename it correctly?

If you are using Windows XP this technique will only work if you are not using a 3rd Party application to skin Windows. (Style XP, Windows Blindes, etc)

The file you are adding into the MSN Messenger directory (usually C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger) must be a gif file.
The name of the file must be LVBACK.gif (all lower case letters tho)

Close the main contact window and reopen it. It should work if now then you might have just saved a picture to a gif extension.

Yes, I am 100% shure about the filename and its format and I've put it in the proper folder. I don't have any skinning application at all. The file is in lower case letters too.
I have checked everything several times.

I found the problem.
I had another color for the backgroundcolor instead of the default White. (Display Properties/Appearance/Advanced/Active Window)
When turning it back to the Default White the lvback.gif was displayed properly.

Even that prevents it from showing? I didn't know that. Thanks for letting us know. But next time don't double post it's against the forum rules

if u look in the program file folder after installing a skin like Rolando's penguin msn, u see a lvback.gif too. It's how he inserts the peguin picture in the background
