Does anyone know if it is possible to install both MSN Messenger 6.2 and 7 on the same PC? I wouldn't want to run them at the same time, just to use one when I don't feel like using the other (i.e. when  i get assaulted with nudges )

both you and your contact need msn 7 for this to happen. and i bet alot of your contacts don't have it. so i wouldn't worry about been assaulted


oh and to answer your question, yes u can have both on your computer. after your install 6.2, rename the folder to "msn messsenger 6.2" and then run the installer for 7. and u will have both on your computer

yeh (as a few people have said) both version need Polygammy patch otherwise it will come up with an error

I'd do it the other way round, hav 6.2 installed and just the msn 7 folder.

well i have both of them on my pc, but i get an error after installed 7 and then tried to run 6.2... it requested a re-install... so i did a re-install for 6.2 and then 7 would not work anymore... it requested for a re-install... so that's my story... can't have them both running at the same time... too bad

7 doesn't work unless you have it installed, however 6.2 is fine when its not installed.

Yea I've got an error too. I renamed MSN Messenger to MSN Messenger 6.2 before installing 7. After installing, I tried to run 6.2 again while 7 was already running but it wouldn't go. It says the configuration is incorrect and reinstallation is necessary or something.. but I'll just stick with 7 for the moment, even though it's a bit hard without Plus!.

try having the Polygammy patch for both 6 and 7, then it should work, it worked for me. You can find them at Mess.be

I get "access denied to rename folder: Msn Messenger" and yes i am the computers administrator, well because we only have one account on our windows xp.

is msn running at the time ???
if so, exit it and then do it

and if not, boot your computer up in safe mode, and log on as admin
