K today I got a router and ive got a network running with aol.
But my msn cant sign in at all, ive checked all over msn they says I may need the details for proxy server, but I didnt think I was on one, has anyone else had this problem and what can I do to sort it out ?

Btw am really not to good with pcs so if u can help can u kinda put it in simple terms plz.

Which type of router did you purchase. What you will have to do is allow traffic on that specific port.

Find your IP Address:
Windows 2000/XP:
Start > run > cmd *press enter* > at command prompt type ipconfig

Windows 98:
Start > run > winifcfg *press enter*

Windows ME:
start > run > command *press enter* > ipconfig

If your IP Address is for example: 192.168.1.100 then the routers IP Address is 192.168.1.1

You will want to enter that IP Address into your Browser (Internet Explorer or whichever)

It will ask for a password. type in administrator.

You will have to enable a specific port on the router to allow traffic. The port is 1863. But thats as much as I can give  you without knowing the make of the router.

Ive been recently told that u cant connect to msn if u got aol and rounter.
Hope this aint true.

and i have no idea how to get into router settings maybe i should have watche the guy set it up ><.

Btw aol IP adress changes everytime u log off so u know.

Your IP from AOL isn't going to matter, when you have a router each computer is given an IP like 192.168.1.100 creating an Internal Network. Your router gets 2 IP Addresses so to speak.
It gets an internal one that you access for the settings and the extranal one to be able to surf the internet.

The router shouldn't need reconfiguring: just so long as NAT is set up correctly (i.e. on), Messenger should work fine.
