Is there any existing way to prevent the MSN contact list from being displayed on the taskbar while the contact list is open? I keep the contact list open on a second monitor, and it's somewhat irritating having the near-functionless "MSN Messenger" taskbar button taking up space on the taskbar.

The only way to do that is making a program that "removes" the button in the taskbar. If you can program, you have to hook the messenger window and make it not shown in taskbar. I don't know any program that does that.
There isn't any way of doing that manually (if what you want is have the contacts easyly accesible, you can use the Contact on Desktop feature of messenger plus)
I was hoping there'd be a known utility or an option I hadn't found for it so I wouldn't have to program my own solution. Ah well, thanks for the answer.
