Alright, I've have messenger for over 2 years now, and my computer's never had a problem with it. Whenever a newer version comes out, I upgrade, so I've got the most current version on my computer now, but I can't sign in! Haven't been about to for a few days now. According to the Service Status report, I should be able to, and I've tried everything I can think of to solve the problem. I've gone through everything that appears relevant in help, I've checked all my settings, and I've even done a complete uninstall and reinstalled messenger, still the same problem. What happens is I enter my name & password, it starts to log in with the spinning people, then it goes back to login and I stay offline. Any ideas or advice?

Do you have Plus! installed as well?
If so, try to uninstall it first.

What version did you upgrade to?

have you installed any other messenger related programs lately? (such as messenger Discovery) New firewall? router? Have you installed any new programs at all? are you absolutely sure it's msgPlus' problem? just making sure.

Can you sign in when msgPlus is unloaded or uninstalled?

Yes I do also have plus, I'm using 6.2, and my sister keeps downloading MSN Toolbar, but I always delete it everytime I find it 'cuz it annoys me more than it does help.

The most important question here is "can you sign in when msgPlus is unloaded or uninstalled?" so we can narrow down the problem to be msgPlus' problem or some other program's conflict.

Just unistalled plus to check and nope, no luck.

Okay, just unistalled everything MSN, restarted the computer, and reinstalled Messenger 6.2 and it still doesn't work

at the msn messenger's main window, under tools -> options...
at the connection tab, make sure "I use a proxy server" checkbox is unchecked, it is sometimes turned on by accident

the msn toolbar should not have any conflict with messenger, have you installed any other program or changed any configurations lately?

It's not checked, and the only thing that's been downloaded in the last month is my Step Dad's new spiware removal system, McAfee Antispyware, but that was weeks ago and this problem is only 4-5 days old.

This happend to me a while ago but then it got fixed on its own...

But maybe if i am not correct try loggin on, on your friends computer or try making a new passport and log in.. If those dont work just wait a while..
