RE: [Sponsor]MessengerDiscovery alot of adware..
http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=35...d=342531#pid342531
lets see what eckocomplex got to say this time,,,
that time (in the link) his excuse was:
that was just a test: he wants to test adware on his users, to get some money, and who cares if they know or not .....
does anyone want to put a notice on his site, if he was testing.
that was absolutely a lame excuse, and shows real carelessness to users of his software. if he was a decent guy, he would have gave notice "a long time" BEFORE testing, rather than including adware and announcing that "LATER".
i dont have anything agaist eckocomplex, but i would not trust software from him after that incident.

I was running that as a test version for three hours during un-busy periods (I was being ripped off, I just had to make sure). I have fixed the installer to have options, much like Plus!. People are puting words into my mouth in that thread.

Read that, it should answer any questions. If not, PM them to me (or ask here) and I'll post the Q/A there.
Oh by the way, if you saw my bandwidth bill you would understand why actually NEED the sponsor (I use about 15GB a day banwidth).

You, my friend need a better ISP, I blow through 15GB in about a week and I am not a software dev or anything like that. I just like to download stuff, like big games. Still only costs me about $40 (9 mbps too) and my ISP hasn't complained yet.
A sponsor is a good way to go if your spending a lot of time on the program, although you should try and think of ways to make it clear to your users that the program comes with an optional sponsor and give instructions on how to remove it and such. You should also take some notes from Patchou. He's run into trouble with his sponsor program because people can't figure out how to uninstall it, so he created a page and now complaints have died down.

Chaotic_Shield, it's my host that I use all that bandwidth on. I get very cheap deals with the owner as it is . My ISP however is pretty expensive (New Zealand high speed internet is extremely over priced, ask any NZ'er), $80 a month for 2mbit with a 10GB cap (not including $40 phone line fee's).
Xero_Cool, thanks for letting me know. I dread to think how long it has been like that x_x.

Err guys I think you're going a bit off topic now. Problem solved, I think. A nice mod might like to close this topic now :.
