A former White House counsel says the anonymous Deep Throat source who helped drive President Nixon from office is about to be identified.

John Dean, in a recent Los Angeles Times article, said the government source who gave crucial information to the Washington Post reporters whose disclosures eventually forced Nixon to resign in 1974 is gravely ill.

Those reporters, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, vowed to protect Deep Throat's identity until that person's death.

Bob Woodward, a reporter on the team that covered the Watergate story, has advised his executive editor at the Washington Post that "Throat is ill," Dean wrote. And Ben Bradlee, former executive editor of the Post and one of the few people to whom Woodward confided his source's identity, has publicly acknowledged that he has written Throat's obituary.

If Deep Throat's illness is terminal, one of the most enduring mysteries in U.S. journalism will shortly be solved.

wow, thats cool .. i love those things. hiding a person's indentity untill death.

but its kinda sucky cuz people seem to be waiting over him like vultures.

Not a good idea, doesn't this endanger his family if some nut finds decides that Nixon was wrongly fired. There are very few people who would be in favour of Watergate, I know, but there are many extremists...

Those are two separate things, so I doubt it. Lee Harvey Oswald, and whatever (if any) organisation he worked for is most likely behind it...I seem to think that Lee Harvey Oswald seems the most likely guy to have done it

Nah he is to obvious.  Mabye it was one of the Kenedys like Teddy.  (just kidding just having some fun)

If you don't know basically there was a scandal called Watergate and woodward and bernstein broke it wide open with the source of Deep Throat who implicated Nixon and nixon resigned.  It was all about documents and breaking and entering kind of sort of.

We covered the watergate scandal quite thouroughly in history, but I must admit I remember little of it all. Oh well, thats highschool for ya

On another note, I think the JFK murder and Watergate scandal are completely unrelated.
