I'm surprised no one has recommended avast! Antivirus. It's constantly being updated, not exactly the lowest on system resources but it's do-able, and the home edition is free (Y)

Another vote for NOD32 - comes out tops on virus detection on the Virus Bullentin, and its great on resources.

Its actually the AV software that Microsoft use to scan their stuff, so you know its got to be good! Also they provide regular updates, so you are covered pretty much as soon as viruses are discovered.

Of course its all a matter of preference. Many people like the simplicity of Norton, I prefer the safety of NOD32 :)

* Dane prefers Norton AntiVirus

I've used Norton AntiVirus since version 2000 and have never had a problem with it.  In my opinion, its better than NOD32 in terms of detection, but thats just my opinion.

Symantec. I use it because it's a school laptop that I have. I have Norton '04 and it sucks on the older computers in my house, such a big memory hog, and it scans way too much for older computers. (By old I mean like 5 years old)

Chaotic_Shield, Norton AntiVirus '05 uses less resources then '04. You might wanna try it :happy:

For sure! NOD32 has saved me countless times. I've tried a few Anti-virus programs but NOD32 stands out as the best.

NOD32 has detected a lot of the new viruses (even some of the ones floating around in MSN) with heuristics alone.
