That FileServer plugin is rather old, it properly doesn't support MSN 6.xx and above, so...
I know this is not the best solution (and a litle advertisement), but maybe Shortcut Plugin could help you out?... It has a Remote Feature so you can control your MSN Messenger away from home, this also including sending files from you computer to another contact (your gf's account)...
But the best method I would advise you to do was set up a FTP server on your computer.. you can get lots of different FTP programs on the internet and for free, and they are very easy to set up..
You say your IP is dynamic, then you go and get yourself a free dyndns name... Then that problem is fixed...
