Well, if you're using a pump or air compressor, blow from a distance (outside of the case) to keep the pressure down, and use your hand to check it.

i always have a can on my desk, usually open. i also usually have frost on my wall :P

you dont really have to worry too much about compressed air, if you see your ribbon cables pulling funny you may want to avoid them.

while you clean your pc make sure you get the dust out of the heatsinks and out of the powersupply.  in most peoples computers the psu is the only exaust fan and it can get discustingly dirty. (i have a compaq desktop in my closit that has massive dust bunnies in the psu that wont come out, i couldnt even get it open to clean it.)

Not only dust can increase the temp. Also your HD may have to work more because it has accumulated more and more files and is more and more defragmented. This can cause, just as with dust, indirect temp changes; as the HD gets hotter, the whole inside of the case gets hotter, thus also the CPU...

LOL glad it helped.  Funny how these small things can make such a difference.

On a sidenote, whoever said the HDD can make the system hotter, not here mate, tis the collest part of mine LOL Altho I am big on maintenance as I can have a Windows machine run for years without needing a format/reinstall.
