I know I can always check back, but I am lazy.

New plugins are usually announced in the Plugins section of the forums. You can Subscribe to that forum and you'll receive an email each time anyone creates a new thread.

I know, but suggestions being posted there will motify me too.

Thats the only choise available really at the moment - that i know of. Maby someone could make a plugin for it though.

It's not really feasable TBH. What you really need is for plugin authors to implement their own update notifications.
The next version of Phoenix will likely have that feature.
