Ive tried reinstalling it many times with both 6.xx and 7beta but whenever i try to sign in the program freezes and i get an error message saying the program has got to close. The error code it lists is never the same but is usually in the from of 0xc000005 or similar, altho ive had 0x000000e44 and others. its really starting to annoy me as ive run uptodate virus checkers and adaware programs and got rid of anything malicious. it still wont load. another thing - it wont defragment files in the msn folder for some reason.. ive tried doing everything like registering softpub.dll etc but i am completely stumped.

any help would be gratefully accepted.

About the not defragging: you can't defrag whats in use (afaik, or it takes ages)..defrag always in safemode

i havnt got anything additional installed im afraid

Check the plugins folder anyways (C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3\Plugins) an tell me what's inthere.

What you might want to try aswell is to uninstall MSNM, reboot then delete all folders pointing towards MSNM (programfiles folder), then reinstall again..see if that works.

If you are hopeless you can try a restore point....

I'm having a similar problem...

Sometimes, I sign in to msn, and after signing msn closes...
This also usually happens when I try to open a convo window...

There's other things causing these kinda problems aswell:
- Handwriting plugin, you don't need that one anymore in MSN 7 (it's built in)..you can safely remove handwriting.dll from plugins folder (after closing MSNM).
- Smileycentral, if you use that here are the uninstall intructions.

Clearing internetcache and cookies sometimes helps too. Set it to delete those on exit if possible and set cache no bigger than 50 (settings > internetoptions...under temp internetfiles click "settings")
